Glad Tidings is a religious Braille magazine
It is published quarterly and consisting of instructional and informational articles by sound brethren all over the world. There is also a section for about four to six hymns (the words not the notes).
Glad Tidings was started by Bros. Paul Witt and Leonard Burford in 1954 and was sponsored by the 16th & vine Streets church of Christ of Abilene Texas. They called it Glad Tidings of Good Things. It was shortened to Glad Tidings in the late 80's.
From 1987-1999 brother John Bessire of Portland Oregon maintained the publication. From 1999 – 2002 the Hermosa Beach church of Christ helped sponsor it while a new editor and sponsor could be found.
John Bessire contacted me (David Dugan) and asked if I would help him find someone sound in the Gospel to carry on the publication. I offered to take over the editorship and see what I could do to find a sponsor. Newton Street church of Christ (where I was the full time preacher) filled in until World Video Bible School decided it would be able to fund it. I have been and continue to be the editor since that time.
There are usually about 14 pages of articles and a few pages of hymns. It is sent to the Braille publishers where it is converted to Braille, proofed and sent out to over 240 subscribers. It is mailed for free under FREE MAIL FOR THE BLIND. About one third of the readers are overseas. Most are not members of the church; therefore many of the articles are often devoted to fundamental teachings. However we receive more comments about the songs than we do about the articles. Some of these people are deaf/blind and they have expressed their great appreciation for this material because it is the only sound material available they have been able to acquire anywhere.
